Following the success of the short film INNERMOST last year, we've recognized the thriving landscape of stop-motion wuxia within the Chinese animation industry. This year, Fantasia proudly presents all three episodes of the LANTERN BLADE mini-series by the renowned studio Nice Boat. From features like DAHUFA (Fantasia 2018) to anime series like WHITE CAT LEGEND and short films like BRIDGE (Annecy 2019 Official Selection), Nice Boat has always been dedicated to crafting animated works with Chinese inspirations, using a variety of techniques. Adapted from the manhua of the same name, LANTERN BLADE seamlessly merges martial-arts adventure and Lovecraftian horror. With captivating fight scenes and a worldview spanning decades, the series carefully selects the most impressive moments from the original comic book, reorganizing them to create a powerful clash between truth and falsehood, kindness and evil. – Xige Yi
